Volunteers Wanted!

Well the new term has started with lots of new members and children moving up to cubs and scouts.  Lots of new activities are planned to keep everyone busy during the darker evenings.

None of this would be possible without the dedication of all the volunteers from the leaders and helpers through to the treasurer and committee members.

There are roles available for people with all kinds of skills and interests and it would be great to be able to build on what is already in place.

If you are interested please get in touch to find out more - details are on the poster below.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Busy as a Beaver!

Last half term the Beavers completed the Global Challenge badge and the Imagination badge.  For these they tasted food from other countries, learnt how to say hello in other languages and had a great show of Beaver talent with some talented singers and a budding magician.

Some Beavers have also achieved their Hobby badge.  They told us about their hobbies including football, rugby, climbing, various collections and we had an amazing diablo demonstration.

All very impressive - they are a busy bunch of Beavers!

The photos below show some of the activities that the group have been involved with recently.

Making Musical Instruments

Making more Musical Instruments

and now we have a complete orchestra!

Time for a drink and a biscuit.

All tied up!

Time for the Going Home song - see you next week.

If you would like to find out more about joining the Beavers or would like to put your child's name on the waiting list please get in touch via oldcolwynscouts@hotmail.co.uk

Scouts get on their bikes!

The 6th May saw the Scouts get out on their bikes.

This was a really popular activity as you can see by all the enthusiastic cyclists in the picture.  As luck would have it, it was a dry evening and of course the lighter nights meant that the scouts didn't have to rush back.

The intrepid cyclists took the cycle path along the coast.  It's ideal for a group as there is no need to battle with traffic and every one did manage to keep clear of the cliffs!

Well done Scouts!

What do the Subs cover?

Subs are paid to the Group to help with the running costs of the Scout hut, for badges, various activities on meeting nights and insurance.

It also pays for the annual fee that each member must pay to the national Scout association. (For 2014 this is £36 per child.)

How much will it cost each term?

The subs (which include the annual fee to the Scout Association) comes to £36 per term.

How can I pay?

The Group’s preferred method of payment is by standing order:- £9 monthly, £36 termly or £108 yearly.

Details of how to pay are available from the group leader or on the Subs and Gift Aid tab to the right of this post.

The Group will also accept payment in cash paid to the section leaders each term or in installments over the term.

Gift Aid

Gift aid is a simple government initiative which allows you to increase the value of your donations at no extra cost to you.

For every pound paid in subscriptions the Scout Group can get an extra 25p from HM Revenue & Customs.

This extra income will make a big difference to the Group.

Gift Aid forms will be available on the website shortly but in the meantime please ask a group leader for a form if you are eligible.  Please only fill in the gift aid form if you have paid tax over the last year.

If your child is interested in joining the group but you are concerned about whether you can afford the Subs or the uniform please contact us or ask to speak to the group leader as there may be support available.

Scouts Rowen Hike - 19 - 20 Oct 2013

While we are waiting for the weather to settle so that we can get back outdoors, let's take the opportunity to look back at the Scouts' Rowen hike from the autumn.

Walking from Conwy to Rowen camp. All navigation done by the Scouts

Lunch stop!
It was very windy but no rain on the walk.

After setting up camp at Rowen, the Scouts cooked chicken curry for dinner!
Evening was spent playing games around the camp fire with chocolate bananas and marshmallows.

The day after a busy day walking and a very late night, scouts were a little tired on the Sunday morning!
